Dr. Greg Florant To Be Fit and Fat: Consequences of Obesity in Mammalian Hibernators

nn-mam-image.jpgThe experiments performed in my laboratory are designed to investigate the physiological and biochemical mechanisms that are involved in regulating food intake and energy balance in mammals. We believe this is an extremely important question given the problems associated with over eating and obesity in our society. The questions we address are: what regulates food intake and body mass in mammals that hibernate? Are specific hormones involved in the regulation of fasting? The results of our investigations will hopefully have a broad impact by adding new basic knowledge to our current understanding of how animals regulate their body mass.
