Aspen vs. Vail Cycling Challenge
May 18, 2008
Tom’s Door, a Basalt based non-profit organization, has partnered with Challenge Aspen, a Snowmass based non-profit, to launch the Aspen Vail Challenge cycling race. The event has been son Saturday, *** June 28 and Sunday, June 29. Cyclists will race from downtown Aspen to Vail on Saturday (Stage 1) and finish the event on Sunday as they complete the round-trip adventure (Stage 2). Approximately 225 Aspen and Vail Valley cyclists are expected to compete along with 25-30 athletes with disabilities. Stage 1 encompasses 110 miles and 12,300 feet of climbing. In stage 2, cyclists will complete 95.5 miles and 11,100 feet of climbing.
“The purpose of the event is two-fold,” says race organizer Frank McSwain, Jr. “Our first priorities are raising awareness and revenue for Tom’s Door’s and Challenge Aspen. These are amazing local non-profit organizations, and supporting them directly helps those in need within the Roaring Fork Valley and beyond. The second priority is to provide a healthy venue where Aspen and Vail Valley athletes can compete with one another. Let’s see which town has ‘bragging rights’ for the year!”
*** It is possible that the dates for this event are changing, please check the official website for more information.
