January 30, 7:30 PM $4, Free for members
During the evening’s Potbelly Perspective, we will explore the volatile region of Sicily. Located in the center of the Mediterranean, Sicily has been invaded and raided since Paleolithic time, 14,000 years ago. Phoenicians, Greeks, Romans, Vandals, Muslim, Swabian, Angevin, Spanish, French, Allied Forces have all crossed her shores. This colorful territory contains Europe’s largest active volcano, the best examples of Greek Doric temples, and developed her own unique style of Sicilian Baroque Architecture. Sicily has five sites on the UNESCO world Heritage list, with three other areas pending. We will also take a look at the Egadis, Aeolian and Pantelleria Islands during our presentation.
