Aspen Historical Society Unveils New “HISTORY COACH”
Electric Vehicle Poised for FUN Historical Tours
Ever been on a tour that was fun, funny and informative? The Aspen Historical Society is pleased to unveil its new “HISTORY COACH”, a six-seat electric vehicle specifically designed to give historic tours of downtown Aspen and two Society museums. Co-sponsored by Coates, Reid and Waldron / ResortQuest, the “HISTORY COACH” will operate Tuesday through Saturday at 12:15, 1:00, 1:45, & 2:30. A single custom tour is also available each Sunday and includes lunch and other special surprises.
In an effort to “drive” visitors to both their Wheeler/Stallard and Holden/Marolt Museums, the Historical Society went in search of an environmentally-friendly multi-person tour vehicle. After more than a year of research, The Fargo, North Dakota-based Global Electric Motorcars Gem e6 was selected as the perfect vehicle. With the help of Coates, Reid and Waldron / ResortQuest, the Aspen Historical Society purchased the six-seater this spring and has been outfitting it since. Custom signage was added, tour routes determined and with the hiring of veteran Crystal Palace funny man Michael Monroney as ”the coach”, the “HISTORY COACH” is now ready for operation.
Tours begin at the fountain by the Wheeler Opera House, travel through Aspen’s historic West End to the Wheeler/Stallard Museum on 6th and Bleeker as well as to the Holden/Marolt Mining and Ranching Museum on the eastern edge of the Marolt Open Space before returning to downtown. Cost for the tours is $25 for adults, $20 for seniors and free for children 12 and under. Reservations are suggested, though not required. For more information about Aspen’s “HISTORY COACH” please call Nina Gabianelli at the Aspen Historic al Society, 925-3721, ext. 104.
