On the Rocks Again: Climbing Adventures from the Alps over Pakistan and India
Tanja Rojs Grmovsek
January 23, 7:30 PM $4, free for members

ON THE ROCKS AGAIN is a continuation of a slideshow presentation from two years ago when Tanja shared her world-wide climbing exploits for the first time in Aspen. This year she will talk about not only her climbing but also about the challenges and problems that any climbing expedition experiences and brings to the world’s most beautiful mountain ranges, problems such as over-crowding and pollution.

Through her latest climbing expeditions, one to Pakistan and the other to India, Tanja will contrast the high and low impact expedition styles and what that means in the world of climbing. She will talk about the first women’s ascent in the “man’s” world of alpinism in the Trango group in the Karakorum mountain range in Pakistan. She will attempt to contrast the Karakorum madness and environmental impacts of such expeditions to her latest low-impact style expedition to remote areas of Great Himalayan Range in India, to Miyar Nala Valley. There she climbed and explored with her husband Andrej where they finished a few first ascents.

This presentation will be full of beautiful nature, astonishing big walls, women power, determination in reaching goals and, of course, climbing. The evening will conclude with a short film - tranGOgirls is a movie (30min) about three Slovenian female climbers - Tina, Tanja and Sandra - who put their strength, experience and dreams together to accomplish a first all-female ascents of the magnificent granite needles of Trango Towers in the beautiful mountain area Karakorum, Pakistan in September 2006.
