Vasque Golden Leaf Half Marathon

Join as runners from across the US will descend upon Aspen, Colorado to participate in the much anticipated 29th Annual Vasque Golden Leaf Half Marathon, part of the Vasque and Gore Tex North American Trail Tour. The race begins at 8:30am.

The course traverses the mountains of Snowmass and Aspen at breathtaking heights with fabulous mountain views. The trail can be narrow and steep at times with elevation gains of 970 feet peaking at 9,400 feet in elevation. Unlike the many fast and flat half-marathons on city streets, the Vasque Golden Leaf will challenge even the toughest of half-marathon competitors with its rocky mountain trails. Even so, 500 participants of all levels are expected to be on hand for the event. Pre-registration costs $35.00 and race day registration costs $50.

PISMO Gallery at Aspen Exhibits World-renowned Artists

August 25, 2008

Last fall, PISMO Gallery at Aspen merged with sister gallery, Sardella Fine Art. PISMO Gallery now exhibits contemporary fine art paintings and drawings from select, world-renowned artists, as well as continuing to represent and display works from the foremost glass artists in the world. The new artists on view at PISMO Gallery include Patrick Hughes, Scott Fraser and Skip Steinworth. All three artists have exhibited in Aspen for many years and are collected and sought-after internationally and by a loyal Aspen clientele.

Patrick HughesLondon-based artist Patrick Hughes has been creating his unforgettable three dimensional relief paintings since 1964. He paints ‘reverspective’– the pieces indescribably challenge the viewer’s perception, forcing them to question how a seemingly flat painting can move. Hughes’s iconic paintings range in subject matter from scenes of Venice, the Grand Tetons, to homages to artists that Hughes admires. His works are part of many public collections including: the British Library and the Tate Gallery, London; the Gallery of Modern Art, Glasgow; The Deutsche Bibliotheek, Frankfurt and the Denver Art Museum. Hughes has exhibited in London and throughout Europe, South East Asia, America and Canada.

Scott FraserContemporary realist painter Scott Fraser amazes collectors with his distinct, meticulous approach to painting. His witty, sometimes whimsical subject matter and hyper-realistic style attracts many audiences. Fraser’s paintings are intimate still-lifes, utilizing subject matter such as moths, goldfish, scissors, crackers or whatever catches his attention and interest. Fraser is included in the permanent collections of: The Metropolitan Museum of Art,?Arnot Art Museum,?Denver Art Museum, The Evansville?Museum of Arts and Science, The Philbrook Museum of Art, The Frye Art Museum, among many others.

Skip SteinworthSkip Steinworth also approaches each of his still-life drawings with painstaking attention to detail. His graphite drawings are so detailed and expertly rendered that many, upon first glance, believe that his life-like drawings of flowers, rocks, and vases are actually photographs. Steinworth consistently chooses impossibly complicated compositions, integrating banal objects in strange configurations with reflections and shadows. He is a master at his craft; his pencil drawings transcend their physical space, drawing the viewer in.

Each of these artists engage the viewer and allow all observers to question their perception. All works are much more easily appreciated in person. Come visit PISMO Gallery in Aspen at 433 East Cooper Ave, Aspen, CO. 970-920-1313.
