Cross Country Ski Tours and Lessons-Aspen Snowmass Colorado
January 22, 2008
Aspen Highlands’ Ski Pros Ron Rash and Tim Shortell purchased Aspen Alpine Guides this past summer. Both have guided for A.A.G. for many years and are now excited about their new roles as guide/owners.
Starting this winter A.A.G. will be offering a backcountry ski tour from Snowmass to Buttermilk. The tour starts from the summit of Burnt Mountain, descends 3,000 feet in seven miles, and finishes at the base of Buttermilk Ski area. The route includes a mild descent of the eastern ridge of Burnt Mountain, the open terrain of the Sugar Bowls, and a gentle slope through aspen glades to the Government Trail. This is a challenging tour with a short amount of uphill travel. The emphasis is on enjoying the serenity of the backcountry. It is not recommended for those primarily interested in making turns.
